The Eastern Cape is the traditional home of the Xhosa people and offers the visitor a world of diversities. The Eastern Cape's interior is the arid Karoo, with its wildlife, while in contrast there is the Indian Ocean's Sunshine and Wild Coast areas. Also within the province lies the village of Qunu where Nelson Mandela was born and raised.
The traditional province
Tsitsikama A region of startling beauty along South Africa's southern coastline, with the National Park encompassing its spectacular expanse. Various hiking trails like The Otter, the 200m bungi jump at Bloukrans River and much more.
Addo Home to a herd of 300 elephants, the Addo Elephant National Park allows close quarter viewing and is the most concentrated elephant reserve in Africa.
Wild Coast The Wild Coast is a beautiful and extensive tract of undulating pastoral country studded with whitewashed, thatched rondavel huts. The lack of coastal development and the sheer rugged beauty of this 300-mile stretch of the Africa north of East London, earned its name.

Destination in Focus
Nelson Mandela was born into the royal family of the Tembu at Qunu, near Umtata in the Eastern Cape, on 18 July 1918. A struggle for freedom brought him to one of South Africa's most feared prisons, but he achieved his goals and became the president of South Africa.
